I look mostly at the caliber and reputation and the type of trigger when making up my mind. The other things mean something to me too, but just a little less.
I go first for utility, if it is something to blast the manure pile with, self defense, or hunting. Where am I going to carry it, dry land, boating, or swamps? Then I check reviews, and like the olympics, toss out the high and low scores.
Then when all that is done, I go to the gun shop and buy what they have that fits my hand and I like because I forgot all the other stuff I thought about before I walked in the door.
I want so many different guns, there are no bad decisions to be made.
Since I look at all pistols (weapons of any kind, really) as a self defense tool, it has to be at least 9mm, well balanced in my hand, decent reviews from people that have shot the gun, and since I am a girl it has to be pretty (my glock is the exception).

Oh man.....all of the above......does that help?
Mostly I guess is the utility aspect of it. Is it something I don't have?
Is it a caliber that has a real use? (considering what I already have)
Is it of good enough quality to fit it's intended purpose?
And of course, for me with many, who makes it?
I won't buy certain manufacturers products, just for my own reasons, but I also have a taurus revolver, that many don't like, and I like the gun.
I do shop around for price to some degree, but usually end up at one place ordering and at one place doing the transfer.

I wasnt sure how to express it, so I voted reputation.
I did not get back into handgun usage until my disability...I even went to Austin for the
Instructors CHL license just after I got out of the last rehab home.
But I did used to trade and get some weapons mostly cause of my crazy younger
Bro and Grandpa...each of whom never passed an open pawn shop in their lives. HA HA
As for me....a decision has already been made....as to the weapon I want(ed). I never
"shopped" or bought ona whim or "special"....etc...
I either found or decided what I had decided on already....and had the bread or didnt...
I have never been a "collector" as many are...or, an accumalator etc...and just always kept
a few handguns for use.
