View Full Version : LGS vs. Online Retailer

So I've decided on the Ruger SR9c. Nobody locally has it, I've checked within a 50 mile radius of Green Bay, so I decided to start looking online. I found Buds Gun Shop to have pretty great reviews as most of you I'm sure already know. So with that in mind, I call a LGS and they're listed with Buds as an FFL and charge $25, sweet. Then I go to Bud's online and look at their lay-a-way program, nice, 20% down, 90 days to pay, but there's a clause in there that states that once put on lay-a-way and before my check arrives (they don't take lay-a-away payments via credit card) that someone could walk into the store and buy the gun outright, I get that, OK, that makes sense. So I ask the lady I'm talking to, just out of courisoity, "how many Ruger SR9c's do you have in stock" her reply was "plenty", so I ask, "could you please define plenty", her reply was..."well over 200"! No wonder no LGS have them in stock, freakin' Buds' bought them all! Either way, no biggie, when I get ready to purchase, I know they'll have the gun and my LGS has a good low FFL fee.

Ya, certain retailers are buying them up, all of them........I look at davidsons and there are so many guns listed as allocated, meaning someone is sitting on them in their stock room so others don't have any.
There should be a limit somewhere.

All gun shops get there guns from distributors not from the manufacturers. If your thinking about laying a gun away it must mean you have some time before you expect it to be in hand? Ask your LGS to order you one and see what they say. I've done this and have been told they don't know when or if a gun will become available and I have been called back within a week to pick it up. And usually if a local shop knows the gun is sold before it arrives they don't charge as much as one that might be in there inventory for awhile.
But if that fails Buds has been a great source for more than a few guns that I wanted NOW rather than having to wait.

Mac, I'm in no huge rush. I did contact my LGS and they said they were not able to get one as the Mfg was out of them. So that's why I turned to Bud's.

It sounds like you have a good plan. Do it. Buds is a good place and 25 FFL fee is fair.
I made you a holster last nite.

My dealer has been able to get zero Rugers other than the new little SR .22. He had a bunch of them on order and can only get 9.

As I'm taking a motorcycle ride today, I decide to stop by my LGS and talk about the FFL process. Low and behold, TODAY they got in TEN SR9c's in two tone! Mine will be on lay-a-way tomorrow!

I told ya so, I told ya so !!! LMAO Dealers never know when distributors are going to supply them with more guns if there's a limited supply.

Fleetfarm has a good selection of guns, at what seems like good price. I bought my LCP for $309, Buds has it for $299. Girl at the counter said they will be expandeding even more.
Right now they got good selection of common guns. Ruger, S&W, Glock, Springfield.
