Are freeze dried foodstuffs worth the cost, and do they taste anything like food, or is it just overpriced hype fodder that isn't worth it's weight in duck feathers?

Anyone have experience actually eating this stuff and making use of it for a period of time?

Funny you should ask. For breakfast this past Sunday I tried out some freeze dried potato cubes. You take 1 cup of the taters to 2 cups hot water and let them soak for a short time. They begin smelling like fresh taters right away! Once they soak for a while, I fried them in olive oil with pepper and Lawrys. They were very good!

I am sold on freeze drying for my emergency food. I think I posted about the difference between freeze drying and dehydrating somewhere. Maybe that post should move over into this forum. Freeze drying is a pretty involved process but the results are good.

We did try some of the stuff we bought way back when, it would keep you alive, but it wouldn't be my favorite by any means. heh
