All of the different calibers have their uses, but which one calls to you the most?
I have more 45s than anything else. I don't know why. I do like 1911s alot of want more of them. My hunger for 45s doesn't stop there though. I like this caliber in other guns too though. My most recent pistol purchase was a M&P 45.
There is just something about that big bullet...

I like the 45s a lot and they are prolly my second fav. But my all time favorite is the 22. It can be used for so much and it's cheap to shoot

I still like the 38/357. There just isn't much I can't do with them here and they are cheap and easy to reload.

My all time preference is the .41 magnum.
Second is the .357.
The .41 for me can do it all without hurting after 50 rounds run through the tube, and can be used with wadcutters as well for lower end practice.
I've always been a fan of it and still am, it just isn't cheap to shoot any more.

yeah, up to 25 yards 17hmr is a little expensive but reachs out there.

Well, I was talking about pistol cartridges so I didn't include the 357 or 44 mag in my choices. I love them too. Even though I probably shoot more 45s and 357s, I like the 44 magnum the best.
The 22lr has to be way at the top of the list for sure! How much fun have we all had with the little rimfire!!!

I should say that between the wife and I, we go through an awful lot of 9mm every year. I would hate to be the guy that moves the manure pile, that's for sure!

I bet that manure is nice and soft. You could probably collect those bullets and reload them.

I'll save it for you! I could just light it and spoon out the lead as it burns too. You can hear them hit the blades on the manure spreader, I wonder how far they fly?

Ahhhh....purely pistol cartridges, that'd be the .40. followed by the .45.
The .40 just trips my trigger in a pistol.

Why limit yourself to 25 yds? If your plinking step back to 50 yda and take some shots, it's surprising how accurate you can become with a good 22 and practice.
A 17HMR ammo cost about the same as 22 mag ammo around here and imo isn't any more accurate than a mag.

For me there is nothing like a good old 38 and its 357 companion, starting off with the basic .38 158 grain lead bullet that is so old and simple but yet can do so much. This caliber has served as a home defense load (still does), range, and plinking round. I learned on this caliber when I was in my early teens and have been in love it with it since. The local police would hold annual turkey shoots and participants used the departments issued S&W Model 15's with 38's. The S&W Model 19 was my first hand gun that I bought as soon as I was old enough to buy a hand gun. It was my first duty gun as reserve police officer and I continued to use 38's and 38+P's as a full time police officer until the transition to semi autos. It gave me great versatility. I could use the lower end 38's for most of the simple target and plinking needs, upgrading to 38+P's for situations when a little more energy was called for, and then of course the big brother 357 mag if I wanted to make some real noise and get into some heavier rock and roll. The 357 is also a good trail round in the eastern US for bears, snowmobiling, or whatever, and I've used it for taking some rather large wild boar. As far as a need for bigger calibers? Oh well, I see it like this; Elephants have been dropped with smaller diameter bullets so why do I need bigger for anything that I do. No disrespect for the bigger boys like 45 ACP, but nostalgia, history, practicality, versatility, comfort, affordability, availability and many years of enjoyable experiences is what makes the 38/357 my all time favorite.

I certainly can't argue with ya coach. I just got done shooting an old Model 10 and it just a ton of fun.
When we're talking actual "Drool Factor" the Glock 10mm is on my short list. I got to play with BW's and it was great.
